Joints Treated

WHAT IS THIS THERAPY?

Most people assume stiff, painful joints are just something to live with. Joint mobilization therapy proves otherwise.

Joint mobilization therapy is a hands-on, manual treatment where a trained therapist applies precise, controlled movements to joints that are restricted, stiff, or not moving the way they should. It works by restoring normal joint mechanics, releasing tension in the surrounding tissue, improving range of motion, and reducing the pain that comes with restricted movement.

We offer joint mobilization therapy in Folsom and most patients notice a difference within the first few sessions.

MECHANISM
OF ACTION

01

Restriction Assessment

Precise biomechanical evaluation identifies the specific joint planes and accessory movements that are restricted or painful.

02

Grade-V Articulation

High-velocity low-amplitude (HVLA) thrust techniques restore normal joint arthrokinematics and eliminate intra-articular binding.

03

Range Restoration

Progressive mobilization drills consolidate new range of motion and retrain the neuromuscular system to maintain correct joint mechanics.

Who Needs This Therapy?

Stiff, restricted joints affect people of all ages and activity levels. Here’s who we most commonly help.

  • People with stiff, restricted joints that limit everyday movement
  • Anyone recovering from injury, surgery, or prolonged immobility
  • Active individuals whose performance is being held back by joint tightness
  • Older adults dealing with progressive joint stiffness and reduced mobility
  • People who’ve tried stretching and rest but the restriction just won’t shift

If stiffness, limited movement, or joint pain is affecting how you live, this therapy was designed for you.

Signs You May Benefit

Not sure if this therapy is right for you? These four signs are what most of our patients had in common before their first session.

Persistent Stiffness Your joint feels tight or restricted, especially first thing in the morning or after sitting for a while. Stretching helps temporarily but never fully fixes it.

Limited Range of Motion You can’t move a joint through its full range without pain or resistance. Something feels like it’s stopping you before you get there.

Pain With Specific Movements Certain movements reaching overhead, bending, turning your neck consistently cause discomfort. That’s often a sign of mechanical restriction in the joint.

Pain Disrupting Daily Function When joint stiffness starts interfering with sleep, work, or the things you enjoy, it’s no longer something to work around. It’s something to treat properly.

Conditions We Treat

From post-surgical stiffness to chronic joint restriction, joint mobilization therapy covers more ground than most people expect. Here’s what we treat.

Spinal Joints

  • Neck Pain & Cervical Stiffness
  • Mid-Back Pain & Thoracic Restriction
  • Lower Back Pain & Lumbar Stiffness

Upper Body

  • Shoulder Stiffness & Frozen Shoulder
  • Elbow Restriction
  • Wrist & Hand Joint Dysfunction

Lower Body

  • Hip Stiffness & Restricted Movement
  • Knee Joint Restriction
  • Ankle Stiffness & Post-Sprain Mobility Loss
  • Foot & Toe Joint Dysfunction

Benefits of the Therapy

The benefits go beyond just moving better. When your joints start working the way they should, everything else follows, here’s what most of our patients experience.

Restored Range of Motion
Targeted mobilization techniques release restricted joint tissue and restore the movement you’ve lost, often faster than you’d expect.

Meaningful Pain Reduction
Restricted joints create pain patterns that spread beyond the joint itself. Restoring normal mechanics takes the pressure off surrounding tissue and reduces pain significantly.

Better Functional Movement
Everyday tasks reaching, bending, turning become easier and less painful when the joints driving those movements are working properly.

Faster Recovery
Whether you’re recovering from injury or surgery, joint mobilization accelerates the return of normal movement and prevents long-term stiffness from setting in.

No Downtime
Sessions are hands-on and efficient. You may feel mild soreness for 24–48 hours after that’s normal and a sign the tissue is responding. There’s no recovery period beyond that.

Works Alongside Other Treatments
Joint mobilization pairs well with soft tissue work, laser therapy, and rehabilitation exercises. We combine approaches when it makes sense for your condition.

How the Treatment Process Works

From your first visit to your final session, here’s exactly what the process looks like:

Step 01 — Initial Assessment
We identify which joints are restricted, how movement is affected, and what’s contributing to the problem.

Step 02 — Your Treatment Plan
We build a plan specific to your joints and goals, and walk you through exactly what to expect.

Step 03 — Mobilization Sessions
Your therapist applies precise, graded techniques to restricted joints. Hands-on, controlled, and always within a comfortable range.

Step 04 — Progress Check-Ins
We track your range of motion and pain levels every session and adjust if needed.

Step 05 — Getting You to Your Goal
Moving without pain, back to sport, or through your day comfortably, we keep that in focus throughout.

PATIENT QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

Joint mobilisation uses skilled, controlled movements to restore normal joint mechanics — improving range of motion, reducing pain, and releasing restricted capsular tissue. It is a precise clinical technique, not the forceful manipulation commonly associated with ‘cracking’.

Yes, when performed by a trained therapist. We assess joint integrity, rule out contraindications, and apply graded techniques matched to your tolerance and clinical presentation. Soreness for 24–48 hours post-treatment is normal and expected.

All peripheral joints — shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle — as well as the spinal joints of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions. Your therapist will identify which joints are restricted and contributing to your symptoms.

Many clients with acute restrictions see significant improvement in 2–4 sessions. Chronic joint stiffness or post-surgical restriction typically requires a longer program combined with mobility and strengthening work.

You may feel pressure, stretch, and mild discomfort during treatment — especially in stiff or inflamed joints. Your therapist uses graded techniques (grade I–IV) and will always work within a tolerable range, adjusting based on your feedback.
